My biggest pet hates in the computing world are that people say they need Word or Excel at home, when they never ever use them. If they do, then they do nothing more than write a very simple 1-page letter. That is a LOT of expense for something which never gets used, but is apparently needed, because that's what they use at work!

For £50 less one can save a Windows OS licence, and another £50-150 one can save the cost of a Word Processor that never gets used.

Linux has come a long way, and is definitely ready for the mainstream for 80% of everything a computer is used for (mostly surfing the net or sending/receiving email).
